• Minh’s sister Khanh has always inspired him. Born in Saigon, Khanh left for France in 1975 during the war. After her studies in Le Havre, she started her career in Malaysia, where they lived together in Kuala Lumpur. Married back in France, she gave birth to two magnificent girls, but sadly passed away a few hours after childbirth at the hospital due to medical error from a lack of preventive care. In memory of Khanh, Minh created an endowment fund and launched the Fondation K Project for innovations in preventive healthcare in 2021.

  • We believe in preventive care. We cannot cure all diseases, but if we could foresee potential health implications, we would pay more attention to preventive measures when we spot symptoms. The Fondation K Project aims to solve complex medical problems with preventive, innovative solutions.

  • Source, Support, Scale, Score. We will source innovative projects from makers’ labs around the world. Then, we will support them with donations in order to scale theses projects with corporate partnerships. Throughout the relationship, we will score their concrete impact on preventive healthcare.

  • The fonds de dotation also provides tax advantages unrivaled in Europe for declarative structures (those not requiring authorization):

    • The fund is not subject to corporate tax.

    • On the donor side, individuals receive a 66% tax deduction on the amount of their donation (in a limit of 20% of their taxable income);

    • Legal entities receive a 60% tax deduction (limited to 0.5% of their turnover).

    • Charitable bequests are not subject to transfer taxes (droits de mutation).

    Finally, the notion of the “general interest” that the fund must serve is expanding. Previously viewed as simply philanthropic, creators of fonds de dotation are recognizing its entrepreneurial potential—a perfect fit for our mission of encouraging innovation in crucial sectors.

The Fondation K Project

The Fondation K Project is a blueprint for Fonds K’s first steps. Fonds K is registered under French law as a fonds de dotation (endowment fund).

While we intend to ultimately create a foundation, the fonds de dotation structure provides us with many advantages in our initial phase. It’s a simple, flexible structure that raises money like a foundation but is subject to fewer administrative formalities—notably, it can be constituted rapidly, while it can take almost two years for foundations to receive authorization.

The founders are free to choose the mode of governance, which can be optimized to best serve the fund’s goals.
